The inlet air mass flow rate for an industrial gas turbine is a key variable for monitoring and predicting plant performance. An accurate measurement of air mass flow rate will provide high quality information concerning compressor efficiency, firing temperature and expander efficiency in the combustion turbine, as well as efficiency of the heat recovery steam generator in combined cycle power generation units.

See below in a typical 501G machine how the air mass flow allows for very important virtual sensors that help improve real time analysis for:

  • Compressor wash optimization
  • Independent and more accurate Turbine Inlet Temperature calculation
  • More precise location of performance issues
  • Improved power forecasts for combined cycle power plants

The FLOWTIM™ Air Mass Flow Measurement Solution was engineered to work on most industrial gas turbine systems from Alstom, GE, MHI, Siemens, etc.  The system utilizes 4 to 8 ultrasonic probes that are installed in the inlet duct of the gas turbine train, after the filters and before the bellmouth of the gas turbine.  Air speed data is sent to a high speed control panel that samples the probe readings and converts the information into very accurate air mass flow rate information to be used in various forecasting and performance monitoring solutions we offer (Sentinel Solutions) or to a third party software that already exists at your plant.
